BALOO is an entry-level training course for Cub Scout leaders (serving youth in grades K–5) who want to take their pack camping. It’s required for at least one adult on every Cub Scout overnight campout.

It’s designed to give leaders the confidence and skills to plan safe, fun, and successful outdoor experiences for young Scouts and their families.

What You Learn

BALOO covers a wide range of practical outdoor topics, such as:

  • How to plan and run a Cub Scout campout
  • Outdoor cooking and food safety
  • Health and safety rules for Cub camping
  • Campfire programs and outdoor games
  • Nature hikes and basic outdoor skills
  • Camping gear, tents, and fire building

It also touches on age-appropriate activities and how Cub Scouts experience the outdoors differently from older Scouts.
