District and Unit Request for Services of Shooting Sports Instructors

  • District and Unit Request for Services of Shooting Sports Instructors

Not for Cub Scout Shooting Sports Events

Scouts BSA Units, Venturing Units, and Districts are welcome to request the services of Certified Shooting Sports Instructors for archery, rifle, and/or shotgun activities at Camp Minsi. Before applying, please refer to the MTC Standard Operating Procedure.

For all Troop-level events, at least one leader attending the event must take “Range Activities SAFEty Training” prior to arriving at the event. It's available through the Scouting America “MyScouting” portal.

The Scouting America adheres to its longstanding policy of teaching its youth and adult members the safe, responsible, intelligent handling, care, and use of firearms and archery equipment in planned, carefully managed, and supervised programs. Experienced directors and instructors will be present to manage shooting events and to help improve individual skills to become more proficient.

Scouts who already possess shooting skills will be given an opportunity to complete the “practical” shooting portion of the Archery, Rifle, or Shotgun Merit Badge requirements. The type of shooting activities provided by the certified shooting sports instructors may possibly be tailored to the Unit or District requirements. Normally a morning session (9:00 to 12:00) and an afternoon session (1:00 to 4:00) are scheduled.

Costs of ammunition and/or targets consumed during events are covered by the established shooter price of the application. The Minsi Trails Council Range and Target Committee will be responsible for the materials used during the event. Participants may not bring their individual firearms or bow and arrows. Costs of maintaining the shooting ranges and equipment (i.e.: cleaning supplies, broken arrows, and maintenance of the firearms and archery equipment) are incorporated in the shooter's price.

Once the shooting sports ranges are open, they have to be staffed until closed at the end of the day’s events. Therefore, the unit or those arranging the shooting sports events are to be considerate and provide lunch for shooting sports volunteers at their respective ranges. Requests for the services of Certified Shooting Sports Instructors must be made through the Minsi Trails Council Range and Target Committee. The application is below. If you want to camp overnight at Camp Minsi, make these arrangements through the Weekend Camping Facility rental system at https://campreservation.com/502/Camps/730

Please recognize that many events happen on our properties. Always refer to the council calendar for camp closures.

Thank You,
Minsi Trails Council Range and Target Committee
